What is the SPF 10-lookup limit and why does it matter?
SPF permits at most 10 DNS-querying mechanisms. Exceed it and receivers return permerror and treat your domain as having no SPF at all. It is the most common real-world SPF failure, and most free checkers report 'SPF found' without counting — so a broken record looks like a pass.
My DMARC record exists. Why am I not scoring full marks?
A record at p=none monitors but enforces nothing, so spoofing is not blocked. Enforcement means p=quarantine or p=reject applied to 100% of mail. We score the policy, not merely the record's presence.
It found no DKIM key, but I know we have one.
DKIM selectors cannot be enumerated from outside — we probe the 17 selectors the major providers use by convention. A custom selector will not be found, which is why the result says so rather than claiming DKIM is absent.
Why does this matter for cold outbound specifically?
Cold email has no prior engagement to lean on, so authentication is most of what receivers judge you by. A domain failing SPF or DMARC sees a large share of its mail filtered regardless of how good the copy is.
